A Study on Main Stress and Coping of High School Student: With Focus Vocational High School

This essay was performed to investigate the primary sources of stress for vocational high school students, the way in which it is handled by them and the social supports for helping them to cope with it. The sample was selected from Chuncheon, Korea, 400 vocational high school students. The data were analyzed by such statistical methods as frequency, distribution and percentage etc. The results are as following: The primary sources of stress for those students involved in their grades, relationship with opposite sex friends and their own personality. In order to control this kinds of stress, the boys was to “listening to music” for solving the problems of their grades and “drinking and smoking” for relationships with opposite sex friends and their own personality. The coping methods of the girls also was to “listening to music” for their grades, but they got “think alone” when the girls had trouble with opposite sex friends and their personality. The girls took more passive ways than the boys in overcoming the problems. The sources of social support for helping the students to cope with their grades, for the boys, were same-sex friends, father and mother, for the girls, the groups of supports werw same-sex friends, mother and siblings. Concerning in relationships with opposite sex friends and their own personality, to the boys the social supports were given by same-sex friends, father, mother and opposite-sex friends, to the girls by samw-sex friends, mother and father. It seemed to be more effective when same-sex friends offerded the support rather than other groups. The students had necessary information and emotional stability through encourgement, advice, listining to their problems, letting them talk freely and open understanding. This forms of support were likely to be very effective.
