An Analysis on the Actual State of Child Educare Programs After School: Centering around social welfare service centers in Taegu area

The purpose of this study is to provide basic information necessary to activate child educare programs after school, centering around social welfare service centers in Taegu area which have been providing child educare programs after school. This study was carried out by surveying the actual state of child educare programs after school, and analysing the opinions of children using the programs, their parents, and related persons, so as to examine what difference is between the programs' users and providers. The result of this study is summarized as follows. First, it was shown that the social welfare service centers' child educare programs after school were designed for a variety of well-organized and integrated types focusing on low-graded children of primary school, for the purpose of their safety, and social, emotional development. Second, as a result of surveying the opinions of children as the program users, their parents, and related persons, it was shown that they were very positive in the programs after school. In particular, the positive change in the social, emotional aspect of children who took part in the programs indicated that the expected effect of the programs was resulting in a desirable result. Third, an interview with the related person was held to find out a method for activating the child educare programs after school. To activate the programs, then, it was required (1)to develop systematic, special programs, (2)to financially support the use of programs, (3)to encourage the parents to actively participate in and understand the programs, (4)to prepare and retrain the specialized experts in the programs, and (5)to provide environment and space for children.
