The purposes of this study were to find the general trends of parent-child relationships and psychological well-being of single mothers' and their children, to analyze the differences and correlations of the variables explaining relationships between single mothers and their children. The subjects were the 284 dyads of single mothers-and-their children living in Kwangju. The major findings were as follows; 1. Scores of life satisfaction and depression points of single mothers and their children' were lower than the average, but their were more conflicts than the average. Single mothers' open communication was significantly higher than that of their life satisfaction and depression' but not life satisfaction. 2. Open communication, conflict, life satisfaction and depression of single mother were positively related to those of children. 3. Life satisfaction of single-mother families were influenced by the level of mothers' education and the open communication pattern between mothers and their children. Depression of single-mother families was influenced by the level of mothers education and conflict between mothers and their adolescent children.
