The purpose of this study is to find out how the psychological health of family affects the self-esteem of college students. For this purpose, 518 students(242 male and 276 female) were selected respectively as the subjects. For the measurement of the study, we have employed the Family Health Strengths by UH, Young-ju (1995) and the translated version of the Self-Rating Scale by Kim, Shin-ok (1993) which was developed by Fleming & Courtney (1984). And we have applied the ANOVA, Correlation and Regression to analyze the data. Thus, we have the following results : 1. The propensity of the psychological health of the family was meaningful in family commitment but was not in family values. 2. The propensity of self-esteem was the highest in self-respect and the lowest in the respect for the studying ability. 3. In the psychological health degree of the family by the variables, the lower the grade and the higher the monthly income, the higher the degree was recognized. Meanwhile, the self-esteem was observed high at the age of 24 and 25, and it was higher among male students than among female. 4. In the relationship between self-esteem of the students and the psychological health degree, as the degree was higher, the self-respect and social confidence were observed higher. Besides it was shown that the studying ability and the physical appearance were positively recognized. Consequently, it was possibly known that the family soundness affects significantly the self-esteem of college students.
