The purpose of this study is to examine the research trends on the topic of 'after-school care', and suggest the directions for further studies. The data analysed in the study were collected from various forms of academic journals, theses, textbooks, and research reports from such institutions as the Korean Women Development Institution and the Department of Health and Welfare. 'After-school care' was the key word used in searching proper materials. The analysis was classified by three categories of items such as forms of publication, publication period, and subjects. Results showed that the majority of 'after-school care' studies so far have mainly been focusing on current situation, needs identification, program development, and policy implications. The outcome of the study shows that the notion of 'after-school care' needs to be clearly defined in order to clarify program goals and develop various programs needed. Also one implication of this study is that further studies need to be more focused on the development of measurement scale for testing programs' quality and their effect on children's development.
