A Study on the Appearance and Welfare Policy on the Wife Abuse

Recently, Domestic violence including wife abuse is a major social problem. This study reviewed to survey statistics on wife abuse in Korea and welfare policy for them. There have been a few articles about wife abuse in Korea, but they were not enough to provide a comprehensive picture and welfare policy of the wife abuse. The present study reviewed that the current status, types, reason of the wife abuse at home, domestic violence prevention laws and present condition of the welfare public policy for them. The models of reason on the wife abuse is psychopathological, social-psychological, sociocultural model and biopsychosocial model. This study suggests several ways of prevention and treatment for eliminating wife abuse. In regard to preventing level, eliminating discrimination on the basis of sex and formation of good family relationship, enhancement of the social net-work and public information on the domestic violence prevention laws are needed. Also, In regard to treatment level, enhancement of the protection, physical and mental medical treatment services, settle home services on the abused wife against abuse husbands are needed.
