This study investigated the relationships between children-perceived parent-child bonding type in early stage, family functioning, and children's loneliness. The 899 children who participated in the study were 5th and 6th grade students. The main findings of the study were as follows: 1. Children's loneliness was negatively related to 'maternal care' and 'paternal care', whereas it was positively related to 'maternal overprotection' and 'paternal overprotection' and family functioning was negatively related to loneliness. Both 'maternal care' and 'paternal care' were positively correlated with family functioning, but 'maternal overprotection' and 'paternal overprotection' were negatively correlated with family functioning. 2. In whole children, 'maternal care' and 'paternal overprotection' directly influenced children's loneliness and 'maternal care' and 'paternal care' indirectly influenced children's loneliness via 'family cohesion'. However, what to be noted here is that for boys only 'maternal care' directly influenced children's loneliness whereas for girls 'maternal overprotection' and 'paternal overprotection' directly influenced children's loneliness. And in both boys and girls, 'maternal care' and 'paternal care' indirectly influenced children's loneliness through 'family cohesion'. Finally, it was also found that family cohesion among family functions directly influenced children's loneliness.
