육군 전문가 집단의 시각에서 본 극단적 사건(X-event)에 대한 예측

Forecast of extreme events (X-events) from the perspective of Army expert groups: Focusing on population, technology, and climate

이 연구는 극단적 사건(X-event)의 이론을 토대로 근미래 우리나라에 촉발될 수 있는 불확실한 미래를 예측하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 육군미래혁신연구센터와 육군대학을 표적 집단으로 기관별 최소 5년 이상의 미래 관련 연구경력을 보유한 40명의 전문가를 선정한 후, 집단지성 기반의 심층 그룹 인터뷰(Focus Group Interview) 기법으로 10년 이내 인구, 첨단과학 기술, 기후 분야에서 발생할 수 있는 X-event에 대한 의견을 수렴했다. 이후 연구진은 이들의 의견을 종합하고, 그룹핑과 키워드 분석을 통해 유의미한 결과를 도출하였다. 연구 결과, 인구 급감과 고령화, 인공지능의 사회적 파급 효과, 지구 온난화로 인한 식량 부족, 외계 문명과의 접촉, 지구의 자전축 변화 등 다양한 범위의 사건들이 예측되었다. X-event는 많은 사람이 예측한 분야보다는 예측하지 못한 분야에서 발생 가능성이 크기 때문에 이번 연구로 얻어진 결과는 중요한 의미를 가진다. 그러나 본 연구는 제한된 전문가 집단에 기반을 두고 있어, 보다 광범위한 전문가 집단을 대상으로 한 후속 연구의 필요성을 제시하고 있다. 이 연구는 국가적 수준에서 극단적 사건에 대한 연구를 활성화 시키는 계기가 되어, 미래의 X-event 예측과 그에 대한 대응 방안을 준비하는 데 기여하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to predict the uncertain future that could be triggered in Korea in the near future, based on the theory of extreme events (X-events). For this purpose, we selected 40 experts with a minimum of 5 years of future-related research experience from the Korea Army Research Center for Future and Innovation and the Army College, and collected their opinions on X-events that could occur in the fields of population, advanced science technology, and climate within 10 years using the Focus Group Interview technique based on collective intelligence. Subsequently, the researchers compiled these opinions and derived meaningful results through grouping and keyword analysis. The results of the study predict a range of events, including population decline and aging, social ripple effects of artificial intelligence, food shortages due to global warming, contact with alien civilizations, and changes in the Earth’s rotation axis. The opinions of experts can be considered meaningful. This is because X-events are more likely to occur in unpredictable fields than many people predicted. However, this study is based on a limited group of experts, suggesting the need for follow-up studies targeting a broader group of experts. This study aims to serve as a catalyst for activating research on extreme events at the national level, contributing to the preparation for future X-event predictions and their response measures.
