영화에 활용된 사운드 대위법(Contrapuntal Sound) 양상 연구 - 몽타주 이론 중 비일치의 원리를 중심으로

A Study on Contrapuntal Sound in Movies- Centering on the Principle of Inconsistency among Montage theories

영화에서 ‘사운드 대위법’이란 의도적으로 장면과 어울리지 않는 음악을 활용하는 기법이다. 예컨대, 폭력적이거나 혼란스러운 장면에서 밝고 경쾌한 음악을 사용하거나, 노래곡의 경우 평화로운 가사를 사용하여 일종의 반어법적 충격을 전달시키는 연출 기법을 일컫는다. 이 같은 사운드 대위법 기법을 효과적으로 사용할 때 장면을 통해 전달하고자 하는 메시지를 감정적으로 극대화시켜주며 관객으로 하여금 해당 장면에 깊은 인상을 남기도록 돕는다. 이에 본 연구는 아카데미 영화상 수상 작품들로 권위가 인정된 네 편의 영화를 선정하여 장면과 음악 분석을 중심으로 사운드 대위법의 활용 양상과 삽입곡의 가사에 내포된 사운드 대위법의 양상을 분석하였다. 이와 같이, 영상과 음악의 상호작용을 고찰한 결과, 의도적인 사운드 대위법의 활용이 영화 속에서 감정 연출의 극대화 효과를 이끌어 낸다는 점을 확인할 수있었다. 또한, 사운드 대위법의 여러 기법 중 몽타주 이론을 중심으로 한 비일치의 원리 기법이 다수의사례를 통해 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통해 영화에서 활용되는 사운드 대위법에 관한 연구가 확장되기를바라고 향후 영화음악 관련 연구의 발전에 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.

In films, soundtrack dissonance refers to the technique of deliberately using music that does not match the visuals. For example, bright and cheerful music might be used in violent or chaotic scenes, or lyrics might be used to maximize the shock, creating emotional impact and atmosphere. When used effectively, it can be a powerful tool, leaving a deep impression on the audience and enhancing the emotional impact of a scene. This study examines four prestigious works, including Academy Award winners and nominees, by analyzing scenes and music. It compares and analyzes the musical features in the scenes to identify the characteristics of audiovisual dissonance. Through this research, it is hoped that continuous study of soundtrack dissonance in films will be encouraged, contributing significant meaning and value to the future development of film music.
