[번역] 明代 袁黃 編著 『四書』의 朝鮮에서의 流傳과 意義

The Spread of the Ming Dynasty Yuan Huang's Editions of Confucian Classics in Korea and Its Significance

본고는 한국 서울대학교 규장각 한국학연구원에 소장된 두 종의 해외 유일본에서 출발하여, 袁黃 編著의 經書가 域外로 전해진 경로와 해외 소장 정황, 조선 문인의 해당 저술에 대한 태도, 그리고 袁黃 編著의 經書가 한국 경학에 미친 영향 및 의의 등에 관련된 문제에 대해 탐구하였다. 연구 결과 袁黃의 저작의 해외 流傳이 적어도 세 가지의 특별한 의의를 가진다고 할 수 있다. 첫째, 대부분 무역이나 구매를 통해 해외로 전해진 서적들과는 달리, 작자 본인이 직접 가지고 조선에 갔고, 그 이후에 다시 여러 경로를 거쳐 일본에 전해졌는데, 이는 고대 문헌의 전파과정 중에서 하나의 특별한 사례라고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 왕실 서고의 소장 정황과 조선 문인의 담론 내용을 통해 조선후기에는 더 이상 朱熹의 주해를 고수하지 않았으며, 때때로 明淸의 새로운 학설에도 주목했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 조선 후기 유학자들은 經說 주해에 있어 이미 주희의 『四書章句集註』의 설에 만족하지 못하였고, 沈守正의 『四書說叢』, 陸隴其의 『四書講義困勉錄』 등의 책들을 통해 『四書五經大全』 이후 명·청대의 새로운 학설을 받아들였으며, 袁黃의 학설도 바로 그 가운데 한 사례라는 것이다.

Taking the only two existing oversea copies preserved in the royal library of Kyujanggak (奎章閣) Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University as the starting point, this study explores Yuan Huang’s (袁黃, also known as袁了凡, Yuan Liao-fan) editions of Confucian classics from various perspectives, including the overseas spreading path, overseas collections, Joseon (朝鮮, old Korean Kingdom) literati’s attitude towards Yuan’s editions, and the influence and significance of Yuan’s editions on the Korean study of Confucian classics (韓國經學). The research results show that there are at least three significances in the overseas spread of Yuan Huang’s editions. Firstly, unlike most Chinese books that were circulated abroad through commerce or purchase, Yuan Huang’s editions were personally carried by the author himself to the Korean Peninsula and were further spread to Japan. This is a very special example in the dissemination of ancient documents. Secondly, from the collections of the royal library and the discussions of the Joseon literati, it can be found that Zhu Xi’s (朱熹) interpretations of Confucian classics had no longer been the only focus in the late Joseon period, and the new theories in Ming and Qing dynasties also received significant attention. Thirdly, no longer content with Zhu Xi’s Sishu zhangju jizhu(四書章句集註), after Sishu Wujing Daquan (四書五經大全), Korean Confucian scholars in the late Joseon period started to embrace the new theories in Ming and Qing dynasties, including Shen Shou-zheng’s (沈守正) Sishu shuocong (四書說叢), Lu Long-qi’s (陸隴其) Sishu jiangyi kunmianlu (四書講義困勉錄), and this study’s focus Yuan Huang’s editions.
