[번역] 번안소설의 '固有化' 기법에 대해: 『龍宮赴宴錄』과 『龍宮の上棟』을 사례로

Individualization of Adaptations of Classical Chinese Stories - In the cases of 龍宮赴宴錄and 竜宮の上棟

번안소설이 성립하기 위해서는 자국화, 혹은 고유화의 기법이 필요하게 되는데, 거기에는 시대배경이나 등장인물의 캐릭터 등의 재설정 외에도 각국 민간신앙이나 설화, 전통적 습속 및 작품을 수용하는 작자가 처한 사회적, 문화적, 혹은 문학적 환경도 중요하다. 왜냐하면 한중일과 같이 문화적 ㄱ반에 공통항이 있으면서도 다양한 차이가 존재하는 경우, 그 차이가 미소하게 작품성립에 그림자를 드리우기 때문이다. 본고는 瞿佑의 『剪燈新話』에 수록된 『水宮慶会録』과 그와 함께 번안된 金時習의 『龍宮赴宴録』, 『浅井了意의 竜宮の上棟(むねあげ)』의 사례에 ①용궁으로의 이동수단, ②龍神의 딸의 혼인 모티프, ③三水神의 명칭, ④妖怪·異物들, ⑤胡人採宝譚의 흔적 등에 주목하여 번안소설의 기법에 대해 고찰을 시도하였다. 그 결과 번안소설에서의 자국화 기법이 장소나 인물설정에 대해서는 비교적 단순한 것에 비해, 민간전승 등이 관여하면 의외일 정도로 역사적 문화적 깊이를 보이며, 또한 작자의 사회적 존재양상과 문학사적 위치도 작품구성과 문장표현의 선택에 영향을 끼쳐, 그것들이 혼연일체가 되어 새로운 문학세계를 낳음이 분명하게 되었다. 종래 『金鏊新話』 연구는 작품의 주제나 독자성이라고 하는 작품론이 주를 이루었지만, 본고는 ‘작품의 구성과 문장표현의 취사선택이 어떠한 문화적 조건 하에 이루어졌는지?’, 바꿔 말하면 ‘작자의 시점에 서면 어떠한 선택지가 존재할 수 있는가?’에 주목한 것이다. 이러한 작업을 쌓아나가면 소설기법의 해명이 보다 심화되고, 번안소설의 독해에 새로운 전개를 가져다 줄 것을 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

For an adaptation, and its accompanied indigenization, resetting of historical background and character is needed as well as consideration of adopters’ social and cultural context including religion, folk tales and other tradition. Even though Korea, Japan and China shared classical Chinese culture, each country developed their own style and tradition and this made various adaptations of earlier story. This thesis compares 瞿佑’s 「水宮慶会録」in『剪燈新話』with 金時習’s 「龍宮赴宴録」 and 浅井了意’s 「竜宮の上棟(むねあげ)」to find out the techniques of adaptation of a story as follows: ① transportation to the Sea God’s Palace ②the motif of marriage to the Sea God’s Princess ③the names of gods of three rivers [三水神] ④ spirits and monsters ⑤ traces of 胡人採宝譚. As conclusion, while the indigenization of background and character is rather simple, the engagement of folklore incredibly gives historical and cultural depth to the story, and of course the adapter’s social and literary position is also important factor of re-organizing the rewriting the story to be a whole new type of literature. Unlike previous studies which focused on the themes and originality of『金鏊新話』, this thesis asks new questions. That is, “Which cultural condition bear composition and expressions of the writing?” or “Which choices the writer have?” This approach will help further understanding of fictitious techniques and adaptations of classical stories.
