Background/Objectives: This study investigated the longitudinal mediating effect of social withdrawal on the relationship between children’s perception of parents' rejective parenting attitudes and life satisfaction. Methods: This study utilized three years of longitudinal data(N=2,054) from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(2018), focusing on fourth-grade elementary-school students. Structural analysis of variables over time was conducted using latent growth modeling. Results: Findings indicate that both parents' rejective parenting attitudes and children’s social withdrawal increased over time, whereas life satisfaction decreased. The intercept and slope of rejective parenting attitudes significantly influenced the intercept and slope of social withdrawal, which in turn had a significant negative effect on life satisfaction. In addition, the intercept in rejective parenting attitudes positively influenced the slope in social withdrawal but not that in life satisfaction. This study confirms the mediating effect of social withdrawal on the longitudinal relationship between rejective parenting attitudes and children’s life satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests the higher perceived rejective parenting attitudes in fourth-grade elementary school correlate with increased social withdrawal and decreased life satisfaction in children, with further changes in social withdrawal and life satisfaction over time. These results underscore the significance of intervening in both parenting practices and children’s social withdrawal to enhance life satisfaction during childhood.
