In Korea, home-based medical care is receiving attention as the country faces an aging population. Home-based medical care aims to improve patients’ quality of life, prevent functional decline, and reduce medical expenses. It involves providing continuous medical services to patients who require ongoing care but have difficulty accessing medical facilities due to mobility issues. In communities, there is growing importance placed on comprehensive and continuous home-based medical care based on multidisciplinary teams. This type of care, which combines attributes of primary care, is referred to as Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). Well-designed home-based primary care (HBPC), which involves comprehensive and continuous case management, contributes to various aspects of patient well-being. These include reducing emergency room visits, hospital admissions, improving functionality, and enhancing quality of life. However, consistent results have not been observed across all studies. Despite various pilot projects related to home-based medical care in Korea, well-designed intervention studies for home-based primary care should continue to be conducted in the future.
