완곡 표현의 정의와 범주에 대한 재검토

Rethinking the Definition and Categories of Euphemisms

전 세계의 학자들이 다양한 각도에서 완곡 표현을 연구하여 많은 성과를 거두었다. 그러나 아쉬운 것은 완곡 표현의 개념과 범주에 대해 엄밀한 연구가 부족해서 깊이 있는 발전이 더딘 실정이다. 본고는 우선 명확성 부족과 외연이 좁은 것 두 가지 측면으로 기존 정의의 문제점을 살펴본다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 완곡 표현의 정의와 범주를 다시 검토해 보고 완곡 표현의 범주는 어휘, 구, 절, 문장, 담화 등 여러 측면을 포함해야 한다고 생각한다.

Scholars around the world have studied euphemisms from various angles and achieved many results. However, what is unfortunate is that there is a lack of rigorous research on the concepts and categories of euphemisms, so in-depth development is slow. This paper first examines the problems of the existing definition in terms of two aspects: lack of clarity and narrow denotation. Based on this, this paper reexamines the definition and category of euphemism. And the categories of euphemism are vocabulary, phrase, sentence and conversation.
