The Effects of Board Games on Hand Function of Elderly Applied in Some Welfare Centers

연구 목적: 본 연구는 복지관을 이용하는 고령자의 보드게임 참여가 손 근력과 민첩성에 미치는 효과를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 전북 군산시에 위치한 G 노인 복지관을 이용하는 고령자 13명을 대상으로 총 10주 동안 보드게임을 실시하였다. 손가락 근력은 3-Point Pinch Gauge를 이용하여 근력을 측정하였고 Pick-up Test, Jebsen-Taylor 손 기능 검사를 이용하여 양손의 민첩성 검사를 실시하였다. 연구 내용: 통계처리는 SPSS Window 18.0 프로그램을 사용하였고, 중재 전후 손 기능에 대한 비교는 비모수검정인 Wilcoxon rank sum test를 실시하였다. 그 결과 비우세손의 Pick-up Test와 Jebsen-Taylor 손 기능 검사 항목의 무거운 깡통 옮기기를 제외하고, 양손의 근력과 민첩성에서 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 보였다. 결론 및 제언: 보드게임은 고령자의 손 근력과 민첩성 향상에 효과적인 치료로, 고령자의 독립적인 일상생활과 삶의 질 개선을 위한 작업치료 기초 자료로 제공하고자 한다.

Research Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of board game participation on hand strength and dexterity in elderly individuals using a welfare center. Research Method: Thirteen elderly participants who use the G Senior Welfare Center in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, were involved in a 10-week board game program. Hand strength was measured using a 3-Point Pinch Gauge, and dexterity of both hands was assessed using the Pick-up Test and the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test. Research Content: Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS Windows 18.0 program, and the Wilcoxon rank sum test, a non-parametric test, was used to compare hand function before and after the intervention. The results showed statistically significant improvements in hand strength and dexterity in both hands, except for the non-dominant hand's Pick-up Test and the heavy can moving item of the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test. Conclusion and Suggestions: Board games are effective therapy for improving hand strength and dexterity in the elderly, and can be used as foundational data for occupational therapy to enhance independent daily living and quality of life in the elderly.
