This study used Focus Group Interview(FGI) to identify the competency needs of King Sejong Institute teachers and explore effective strategies to address them. The findings revealed that teachers desired to strengthen their competencies in four key areas: education knowledge, education performance, management and administration, and attitude and personality. Specifically, they expressed a need for expertise in contrastive linguistics, cultural understanding, teaching methods tailored to specific learning objectives and single-language learners, administrative task processing, organizational knowledge and conflict management, communication and counseling skills, and cross-cultural understanding. This study provides valuable insights into the competency development needs of King Sejong Institute teachers and proposes actionable strategies for retraining programs. The FGI approach effectively captured teachers’ perspectives, which may not have been adequately addressed through quantitative methods. Future research should incorporate the voices of a broader range of teachers to further contribute to their competency development.
