XR 기술을 이용한 공주 근대문화유산의 가치 재현과 활용

Reproducing and Utilizing the Value of Gongju’s Modern Cultural Heritage using ICT Technology

백제의 두 번째 수도로 널리 알려져 있는 공주는 백제뿐만 아니라 다양한 문화유산을 보유하고 있다. 그 중 공주근대역사거리는 역사적인 의미와 그 안에 담긴 이야기로 인해 상당한 가치를 지니고 있다. 최근 ICT(정보통신기술)를 활용하여 문화유산을 재현하고 보존하는데 관심이 증가하고 있다. 본고는 ICT 기술을 활용하여 공주의 근대문화유산을 재현하고 활용하는 방법과 과정을 탐구하였다. 2021년 문화재청 특별 공모로 진행된 ‘ICT 실감콘텐츠 개발 사업’은 AR (증강현실)을 활용하여 사업을 진행하였다. 2022년에는 공주의 옛 모습을 가상공간에서 체험할 수 있는 메타버스를 활용하여 공주의 근대 문화유산을 이해하고 경험할 수 있게 하였다. 생생문화재라는 현실 경험과 적절히 결합된 디지털 헤리티지는 문화유산의 가치와 영향을 대중들에게 효과적으로 널리 알릴 수 있다. 과거와 현재를 연결하는 과정에서 XR 기술을 활용한 디지털 헤리티지는 문화유산의 지속성과 접근성을 보장하는데 핵심적인 역할을 수행할 수 있다.

Gongju, widely known as the second capital of Baekje, boasts a variety of cultural heritages, not only from the Baekje period but also from more recent times. Among these, Modern History Street holds considerable value due to its historical significance and the stories it contains. Recently, there has been a growing interest in reproducing and preserving cultural heritage using ICT (Information and Communication Technology). This paper explores ways to reproduce and utilize Gongju's modern cultural heritage using ICT technology. The ‘ICT Realistic Content Development Project,’ conducted as a special contest by the Cultural Heritage Administration in 2021 and 2022, has helped people understand and appreciate Gongju’s modern cultural heritage through various technologies such as AR (augmented reality) and the metaverse. Digital heritage, appropriately combined with reality, can effectively promote the value and influence of cultural heritage to the public. In the process of connecting the past and the present, digital heritage can play a key role in ensuring the sustainability and accessibility of cultural heritage.
