그린 투어리즘 관점에서 본 스페인의 ‘실버 루트’

Spain's Silver Route from a Green Tourism Perspective

본 논문은 그린 투어리즘 관점에서 스페인의 실버 루트(Vía de la Plata)를 해석한 연구이다. 실버 루트는 로마 시대에 광물과 주로 금을 운송하던 물류 도로이며, 오늘날에는 순례길로 널리 알려져 전 세계에서 관광객들이 찾고 있다. 특히 실버 루트는 관광객이 ‘자연과 함께 걷기’(walking with nature)를 통해 자연 문화유산을 체험한다는 의미에서 그린 투어리즘, 생태관광 관점에서 주목할 만한 연구 대상이다. 더구나 스페인을 대표하는 생태관광 프로그램인 까미노스 나뚜랄레스(Caminos Naturales)와 연결되어 있어 그린 투어리즘의 중요한 사례로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 그린 투어리즘과 지속 가능한 관광의 개념을 중심으로 실버 루트가 가지는 시사점을 끌어내 보고자 한다. 무엇보다도 실버 루트는 스페인의 여러 지방자치단체가 컨소시엄을 구성해 홍보함으로써 효율적 관리를 하는 점이 눈에 띄었다. 그리고 루트 주위의 마을 재생 사례와 정보통신기술을 활용해 ‘탄소발자국(carbon footprint)’을 줄이기 위한 여러 노력도 시사적이다. 이러한 실버 루트의 장점을 벤치마킹한다면 향후 대한민국의 관광산업도 새로운 국면으로 향상될 수 있을 것이다.

This essay examines Spain's Silver Route, also known as the “Vía de la Plata”, from the standpoint of ecotourism. Originally used as a logistical route for the transfer of minerals, primarily gold, the Silver Route is now well-known as a pilgrimage path and attracts travelers from all over the world. From the standpoint of ecotourism and green tourism in particular, the Silver Route is a remarkable subject of study since it allows visitors to “walk with nature” and enjoy natural heritage. Furthermore, it is a noteworthy example of green tourism due to its affiliation with Caminos Naturales, the premier ecotourism initiative in Spain. The purpose of this study is to highlight how the Silver Route relates to the ideas of sustainable and green tourism. Above all, a group of municipal governments effectively oversees the Silver Route. Additionally, we discovered instances of community renewal and information and communication technology-based “carbon footprint” reduction initiatives. Enhancing sustainability and securing competitiveness as a tourist destination will be achievable by applying the Silver Route's benefits to Korea's travel sector.
