Foldable Helmet Design Research for Micro Mobility

마이크로 모빌리티는 퍼스트, 라스트 마일의 이동에 특화된 전기를 에너지 동력원으로 사용하는 미래형 이동수단이다. 그 혁신성에 불구하고, 마이크로 모빌리티 이용자의 안전을 책임지는 헬멧은 전통적인 방식에서 벗어나지 못하고 있는 것이 사실이다. 본 연구는 마이크로 모빌리티의 이용 맥락에 맞는 헬멧의 요구 조건을 탐구하고 새로운 방향성을 제안하는데 그 목적이 있다. 마이크로 모빌리티와 사용자에 대한 사전 연구로부터 현재 출시되어 있는 마이크로 모빌리티 접이식 헬멧의 조사 및 분석을 통해 현재의 접이식 헬멧들은 유의미한 부피 감소 효과가 부족하여 휴대성에 문제가 있다는 점을 발견했고, 이를 해결할 수 있는 디자인 연구를 진행했다. 본 연구는 마이크로 모빌리티의 이용 맥락을 고려한 보관 및 휴대에 적합한 유의미한 수준의 부피 감소 효과를 지닌 접이식 헬멧의 상품화 가능성을 제안했다는 데 그 의의가 있다.

Micro mobility, powered by electric energy for first and last mile transportaton, represents a futuristic mode of transport tailored to urban needs. Despite its innovation, helmets designed for micro mobility users have failed to depart from traditional norms. This study aims to explore the requirements for helmets within the context of micro mobility and propose innovative directions. Through preliminary research on micro mobility and its users, an investigation and analysis of currently available foldable helmets revealed insufficient volume reduction capabilities, posing portability issues. Consequntly, a design study was undertaken to address these shortcomings. This research underscores the potential coomercial viability of foldable helmets with significant volume reduction suitable for storage and portability in the context of micro mobility.
