수학교육학연구 제34권 3호.jpg

This study focuses on the implementation of a practice-based teacher education program for secondary preservice teachers in South Korea, specifically on proficient explaining, which is an important competency expected of preservice teachers and requires adequate preparation and support for skillful teaching. Based on one of the strands developed by TeachingWorks, the manuscript reports the results of this implementation by analyzing rehearsal videos through t-test comparisons of pre and post scores on explaining. Participants demonstrated a significant improvement in their ability to explain the transformation of quadratic functions. This research also reports examples of preservice teachers' explaining by demonstrating, explaining, and modeling, as well as their feedback and opinions about the PBTE based curriculum in enhancing their explaining skills. The paper concludes by discussing the implications of practice-based teacher education in the South Korean context.
