The Impact of Church Faith Education on the Formation of Adolescents’ Values

포스트모더니즘, 팬데믹 등 변화하는 세상 속에서 다음 세대를 위한 교회 신앙 교육의 효과에 대한 우려가 커지고 있다. 오늘날의 청소년들은 과거와 마찬가지로 종종 불안하고 부족해 보인다. 신앙은 우리의 세계관, 정체성, 가치관을 형성하며, 우리가 자신을, 관계를, 그리고 세상을 어떻게 인식하는지에 영향을 미친다. 신앙 교육은 기독교적 지식을 전달하는 것을 넘어, 기독교적 세계관, 가치관, 정체성을 함양하여 복음에 따라 살아가도록 안내한다. 이 급변하는 세계에서 적대적인 세력들은 끊임없이 우리의 가치에 도전하고 있다. 현재 상황을 평가하는 것이 문제 해결의 첫걸음이다. 또래 그룹의 의견을 살펴봄으로써 오늘날의 청소년들이 자신의 가치를 어떻게 인식하고 있으며, 교회 신앙 교육이 이러한 가치에 얼마나 영향을 미치는지 이해하고자 한다. 또한, 기독교적 세계관을 유지하기 위해 교회 신앙 교육의 미래 방향을 탐구하고자 한다. 본 연구는 4월 26일부터 5월 16일까지 익명의 구글 폼 설문지를 통해 중학생 155명, 고등학생 470명, 대학생 81명 등 총 706명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시했다. 응답자들을 신앙의 유무와 강도에 따라 신앙이 없는 그룹, 신앙이 약한 그룹, 신앙이 강한 그룹으로 나누었다. 결과는 교회에 대한 인식, 창조론에 대한 인식, 성과 결혼에 대한 인식, 자신에 대한 인식, sns 및 미디어에 대한 인식, 사회에 대한 인식, 음주와 흡연에 대한 인식 등 7개 영역으로 분석하였다. 특히 창조론과 성 윤리에 대한 인식에서 그룹 간 유의미한 차이가 관찰되었다. 이 연구는 청소년의 가치 형성에 있어서 신앙 교육의 중요한 역할을 강조한다. 현재의 상황과 신앙 교육의 영향을 이해함으로써, 다음 세대가 기독교적 세계관을 유지하고 의미 있는 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 더 잘 준비할 수 있다.

In the face of postmodernism, the pandemic, and the ever-changing world, concerns about the effectiveness of church faith education for the next generation are growing. Today’s adolescents, much like those in the past, often seem anxious and lacking. Faith shapes our worldview, identity, and values, influencing how we perceive ourselves, our relationships, and the world. Faith education goes beyond imparting Christian knowledge; it fosters a Christian worldview, values, and identity, guiding individuals to live according to the gospel. In this rapidly changing world, adversarial forces constantly challenge our values. Evaluating the current situation is the first step toward problem-solving. By examining peer group opinions, we aim to understand how today’s adolescents perceive their values and the extent to which church faith education influences these values. Additionally, we seek to explore the future direction of church faith education to uphold the Christian worldview. This study surveyed 706 participants (155 middle school students, 470 high school students, and 81 university students) using an anonymous Google Forms questionnaire conducted from April 26 to May 16. Participants were divided into three groups based on their responses regarding the presence and strength of their faith: those without faith, those with weak faith, and those with strong faith. The results were analyzed across seven domains: perception of the church, views on creationism, perspectives on sex and marriage, self-perception, social media and media usage, societal views, and attitudes toward alcohol and smoking. Significant differences were observed between groups, particularly in views on creationism and sexual ethics. This research underscores the crucial role of faith education in shaping adolescents’ values. By understanding the current landscape and the impact of faith education, we can better equip the next generation to maintain a Christian worldview and lead meaningful lives.
