DOI : 10.59825/iat.2024.1.1.19

In recent years, against the backdrop of globalization, it has become essential for China to focus on enhancing individual competitiveness, broadening students' international perspectives, and strengthening cross-cultural communication skills. Therefore, actively exploring the factors that influence university students' English language learning abilities is crucial. Among these factors, the impact of English language anxiety on students' academic achievement cannot be overlooked. This paper first provides a brief analysis of the perceived relationship between English language anxiety and academic performance in English. Using a local polytechnic as a case study, it then explores in detail the characteristics of English language anxiety among Chinese university students. Finally, it summarizes strategies for improving academic performance in English based on these perceptions, laying a theoretical foundation for effectively alleviating English language anxiety among Chinese students and thereby promoting their academic performance in English.
