A Study on Furniture Design For Overlapping Transparent Bodies

This study aims to explore new sculptural possibilities in modern furniture design through the use of overlapping transparent materials. Transparent materials play a significant role in blurring the boundary between reality and illusion by utilizing their physical and optical properties. In this research, various transparent materials, such as acrylic and resin, were experimentally combined to develop furniture designs that offer new forms and visual experiences. The study systematically analyzed the effects of light refraction, reflection, and transmission created by the overlapping of these materials, presenting a methodology for generating multi-layered visual effects. By leveraging the changes in optical characteristics resulting from the layering of transparent materials, the study proposes new perspectives that obscure or distort the essence of furniture, allowing viewers to reinterpret its underlying form. The results demonstrate that the interaction between light and transparent materials provides a multi-dimensional visual experience, enhancing both the artistic and functional potential of modern furniture design. Moreover, the design methodology proposed in this study is widely applicable not only to modern furniture design utilizing transparent materials but also in the fields of architecture and interior design. As such, this research serves as a valuable reference for creating innovative and functional furniture designs, with significant potential for practical application in related disciplines.
