Exploring Digital Nail Art Design through the Inspiration of Jackson Pollock’s Paintings

Nail art has rapidly gained popularity both domestically and internationally, in tandem with the rise of K-beauty trends. With this surge comes a diverse demand for fresh nail products and designs. To effectively adapt to these swiftly changing trends, there's been a growing need for an array of distinctive and innovative nail artworks. In light of these circumstances, this study classified the works of Jackson Pollock, a leading exponent of Abstract Expressionism in the United States, into early painting, automatism, all-over dripping, and action painting techniques, and completed four nail art designs inspired by them. The design process included experimenting with diverse concepts using digital methods, integrating distinctive motifs characteristic of Pollock's painting techniques into various patterns. These concepts were then applied to craft digital nail art designs utilizing the DALL·E 3 platform integrated with ChatGPT 4. This design approach, leveraging these AI technologies, marks a significant evolution beyond conventional programs that generate images based solely on text prompts. With ChatGPT 4, it's now feasible to engage in dialogue and generate precise images through conversation. To generate the desired images, specific keywords or descriptions are initially required, which are then refined and improved through interaction with ChatGPT 4. This study is expected to pave the way for a new direction in art, establishing a unique genre of nail art through continuous digital research on nail design. It is also hope that the results of this study would available for future research endeavors in the field.
