Purpose: This research aimed to provide a broad overview of Islamic banks (IB) and explore trends of current publications, with the conceptual and intellectual structure between 2019-2023. Design/methodology/approach: Citation, conceptual and structural knowledge analyses were used through Biblioshiny to uncover current trends, impacts, and well-developed themes from 2274 journals. Findings: The results showed that there was a shift of focus to IB identity, governance and performance toward customer behavior related to the new generation, and the influence of digital technology such as blockchain, meta-verse, and social media platforms on the adoption of Islamic finance and banking services. Research limitations/implications: Further research enriching the current knowledge on IB’s economic impact, governance, identity and performance across different contexts must support the understanding since the result is related to the understanding of new generation customer behavior and technology adoption. Originality/value: The broader scope of the literature was reviewed for holistic analysis of issues and opportunities benefiting various stakeholders through interdisciplinary research. In addition, local and global trending topics as well as the most influential articles were identified to show the conceptual knowledge structure in five thematic clusters. This was based on the articles' centrality and density, as well as four cluster co-citations reflecting the intellectual structure of knowledge.
