세계시민교육 프로그램에 참여한 성인기 발달장애인의 경험과 성과 탐색

Exploring the Experiences and Outcomes of Adults with Developmental Disabilities in Global Citizenship Education Programs

본 연구의 목적은 세계시민교육 프로그램에 참여한 성인기 발달장애인의 경험과 성과를 질적으로 분석하여 탐색하고 향후 발달장애인을 위한 세계시민교육의 방향을 모색하는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적에 따라 선행연구에서 세계시민교육 프로그램에 참여한 성인기 발달장애인을 대상으로 수업 결과물을 수집하였으며 프로그램 성과 및 성과 유지를 확인하고자 중재 종료 직후와 두 달 후에 모든 연구참여자를 대상으로 개별면담을 진행하였다. 이후 기본 질적연구 방법(Basic Qualitative Research)을 사용하여 자료를 분석하였으며, 분석 결과 3개(세계시민으로 거듭나기, 실천하는 세계시민, 따뜻한 마음을 가진 세계시민)의 대주제와 7개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 첫 번째 대주제인 세계시민으로 거듭나기와 관련하여 연구참여자들은 프로그램에 참여하며 세계시민으로서 필요한 지식을 습득하였고, 나아가 세계시민교육을 통해 배우고 싶은 주제를 언급하기도 하였는데 이를 통해 그들은 더 나은 세계시민으로 거듭나고 싶어 하는 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째 대주제는 실천하는 세계시민으로 연구참여자는 세계시민교육을 통해 국제 사회문제에 관심을 가지게 되었으며, 그들을 적극적으로 돕기 위한 행동에 참여하고 싶어 하였다. 마지막 대주제는 따뜻한 마음을 가진 세계시민으로 연구참여자들은 국제사회 문제에 공감하는 모습을 보였으며, 지구촌이라는 단어가 인간을 넘어 환경까지 확장되어 인식하게 되었다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 향후 발달장애인을 위한 세계시민교육을 위한 방향에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to qualitatively analyze and explore the experiences and outcomes of adults with developmental disabilities who participated in global citizenship education programs (GCED) and to explore future directions for global citizenship education (GCE) for people with developmental disabilities. For this purpose, class outcomes were collected from participants with developmental disabilities who previously participated in a GCED study, individual interviews were conducted with all participants immediately after the end of the intervention and two months later, after the intervention was completed. The data was then analyzed using basic qualitative research methods, and three major themes and seven sub-themes (Becoming a Global Citizen, Practicing as a Global Citizen, and Global Citizen with a Warm Heart) were identified. The first theme was “Becoming a Global Citizen”. In the first theme, the research participants reported that they acquired the knowledge necessary to be a global citizen by participating in the program. Furthermore, participants said the topics they would like to learn through GCE would enable them to become better global citizens. The second theme was “global citizens in action”, in which participants became interested in international social issues through GCE and wanted to participate in actions to help them. The last theme was “global citizens with a warm heart”, in which the participants showed empathy for international social issues and realized that the word global village extends beyond humans to the environment. Based on the results of this study, directions for future GCE for people with developmental disabilities were made.
