일제강점기 조선 사진첩의 역사적 의미 - 『대일본제국조선사진첩(大日本帝国朝鮮写真帖)』(1910)을 중심으로

The Historical Significance of Korean Photo Albums during the Japanese Occupation: Focusing on the 『Dai Nippon Teikoku Chōsen Shashin-chō』 (1910)

본 논문은 1910년에 발행된 『대일본제국조선사진첩』을 중심으로, 일본 제국주의가 조선을 시각적으로 재현한 방식을 분석하고 그 역사적 의미를 고찰한다. 사진첩에 수록된 이미지는 조선의 주요 도시와 자연경관, 그리고 일상생활을 담고 있으며, 이는 일본의 식민지 지배를 정당화하고자 하는 시각적 프로파간다로활용되었다. 특히, 이 사진첩은 조선을 일본의 문화적·경제적 우월성을 강조하는 방식으로 표현하여, 당시의 제국주의적 시각을 반영하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 사진첩의 구성과 내용을 분석함으로써, 일본 제국주의의 시각적 전략을 이해하는 데 기여하고자 한다.

This paper analyzes the way in which Japanese imperialism visually represented Korea through the 『Dai Nippon Teikoku Chōsen Shashin chō』, published in 1910, and examines its historical significance. The album contains images of major cities, natural landscapes, and everyday life in Korea, which were used as visual propaganda to justify Japan’s colonial rule. In particular, the album portrays Korea in a manner that emphasizes Japan’s cultural and economic superiority, reflecting the imperialistic perspective of the time. By analyzing the composition and content of this photo album, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of the visual strategies employed by Japanese imperialism.
