요르단인 학습자의 한국어 문장 내 말마디 경계 장음화 현상 고찰

Study on utterance-final lengthening in sentence medial position in the Korean speech of Jordanian learners

본 연구는 요르단 아랍어 강세 규칙이 한국어에 부정 전이를 일으켜 외국인 억양으로 지각되는지를 음향 분석을 통해 살펴봤다. 한국어 원어민 화자들은 말마디 경계에 모음 길이를 늘려 발음하는 경향이 있다. 즉, 말마디 경계에서 장음화 현상이 나타난다. 이러한 현상이 요르단 아랍어 화자 발화에서 동일하게 나타나는지, 모국어의 간섭으로부터 영향을 받지 않는지에 대하여 살펴보기 위해 여덟 개의 문장 내에 놓인 여덟 개의 목표어의 모음 길이를 측정하였다. 요르단 아랍어 화자의 발화에서의 말마디 경계의 모음 길이를 측정하여 한국어 원어민 화자의 모음 길이와 대조하였다. 그 결과, 요르단 아랍어 화자의 발화에서 어말 제2음절에 강세가 부과될 경우는 어말 제3음절에 강세가 부과될 경우에 비해 말마디 경계에 긴 모음 길이가 관찰되었다. 따라서 요르단 아랍어의 강세 규칙이 말마디 경계의 모음 길이에 영향을 미친 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 강세 외에도 요르단 아랍어 화자의 한국어 발화에서 부정 전이를 일으키는 다른 요소를 밝히기 위해 후행 연구가 이루어질 것을 권장한다.

This paper examines the temporal aspect of utterance-final lengthening in the Korean speech of Jordanian learners in which a foreign tone was observed, especially on the boundaries of words followed by a stop. Although these pauses are usually accompanied by vowel lengthening in the Korean language as well, the vowel lengthening made by Jordanian speakers seems to be different. To discover the reasons for this phenomenon, this study assumed that stress position in Jordanian Arabic affects utterance-final lengthening in Korean. Based on this assumption, this study examined the vowel duration of eight targeted words inserted into the middle of eight sentences followed by pauses. Resultantly, a longer vowel duration was observed in the speech of Jordanian learners when the stress fell on penultimate syllables, whereas ordinary vowel duration was observed when the stress fell on the antepenultimate position. The results suggest that further studies should follow to reveal whether there are other aspects of the mother language that may be considered to interfere with the Korean language speech of Jordanian learners.
