재한 외국인 유학생의 언어 접촉 양상(LCP)이 한국어 능력과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

Effects of the Language Contact Profile on Korean proficiency and the academic achievement of international students in Korea

본 연구는 재한 외국인 유학생의 언어 접촉 양상을 살펴보았고, 언어 접촉 양상이 한국어 능력과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 재한 외국인 유학생의 언어 접촉 양상에서 1) 한국어 상호작용 시간은 1주일 수업 동안 한국어로 상호작용한 빈도가 가장 높았다. 2) 한국어 사용 시 대화상대로는 서비스 직원들과 가장 많은 말을 했다. 3) 한국어로 말하는 목적은 수업/일과 관련된 긴 대화를 하는 경우가 가장 많았다. 4) 하루 동안 교실 밖에서 한국어로 말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기 활동 중에서 한국어 듣기에 가장 많은 시간을 할애하였다. 다음으로, 재한 외국인 유학생들의 언어 접촉 양상과 한국어 능력, 언 어 접촉 양상과 학업성취도 간에는 유의미한 상관관계를 이루었다. 마 지막으로, 언어 접촉 양상 중에 학업성취도에 중요한 영향을 미친 변 인으로는 1주일 동안 수업 밖에서 한국어로 상호작용한 빈도, 하루 동 안 교실 밖에서 한국어로 읽기, 하루 동안 교실 밖에서 한국어로 쓰기 임을 알 수 있었다.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Language Contact Profile on Korean proficiency and the academic achievement of international students in Korea. First, the results of the students’ Language Contact Profile show that (1) duration of speaking Korean in classroom per week was the highest in the duration of Korean language interaction, (2) international students spoke the most Korean with service personnel as communication partners, (3) the most frequently occurring purposes for long conversations were to clarify classroom or job–related work, (4) the most time the students spent listening to Korean outside of the classroom per day. Second, there was a significant correlation between the Language Contact Profile and Korean proficiency, as well as between the Language Contact Profile and academic achievement. Finally, the duration of speaking Korean outside of the classroom per week and reading and writing in Korean outside of the classroom per day had an influence on international students’ academic achievement.
