이 연구는 우리나라 발명영재 교육이 양적으로 증가하고 있는 시점에서 발명영재 교육의 현황, 당면 과제 및 개선 방안을 모색할 목적으로 문헌연구 방법에 의하여 수행되었다. 연구의 결론에 기초하여 다음과 같이 제언하였다. 첫째, 발명영재 교육의 저변 확대와 활성화를 위해서는 그 근간이 되는 학문 및 이론 체계가 구 축되어야 하므로, 후속 연구가 지속적으로 이루어져야 한다. 둘째, 발명영재 교육은 양적으로 급격하게 확산되는 추세에 있으나 지역에 따라서는 다소 소극 적인 태도를 보이고 있어 저변 확대에 장애 요인이 되고 있다. 따라서 정부 차원의 독려를 통하여 지역적으로 균형 잡힌 발명영재 교육이 이루어지도록 할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 발명영재 학급의 구성 유형이 지나치게 세분화되어 있어 내실 있는 수업 운영에 장애 요 인이 되고 있다. 더 많은 발명영재를 선발함으로써 발명영재 학급을 같은 학년이나 같은 학교 급 으로 구성하도록 노력할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 발명영재 선발 도구를 개발할 때에는 발명영재의 차별성이 충분히 반영되도록 함으로써 학업성취 능력보다는 발명 창의성이나 기술적 문제해결력 등의 자질을 갖춘 영재들이 선발될 수 있도록 해야 한다. 다섯째, 발명영재의 선발 과정은 3~4단계를 거치도록 하며 교사의 관찰ㆍ추천 내용이 가급적 많이 반영될 수 있도록 하고, 교사의 업무를 최소화하기 위하여 다양한 행정적 지원이 이루어져야 한다. 여섯째, 현재와 같이 기관, 지역, 지도교사 등에 따라 제각각 다른 교육 내용을 가지고 지도한다 면 장기적으로 볼 때 발명영재 교육의 미래를 보장받을 수 없다. 발명영재 교육 내용 표준을 조속 히 마련해야하는 이유이다.
Purposes of this study were to analyze the status and facing problems and to search for improvement plans of invention gifted education. This study was carried out through literature review. Suggestions by research results were made as follows. First, theoretical and academic bases should be systemized for activating invention gifted education. Second, even though invention gifted education is on an increasing trend, there is unbalance among regions. So it is necessary that government should encourage passive regions to adapt and practice invention gifted education more actively. Third, creativity, technological problem solving skills instead of academic achievement should be reflected on tools for selecting the invention gifted for distinction of invention gifted education. Fourth, processes should be organized by 3~4 steps which emphasizing observationㆍ recommendation of teachers for appropriate selection of invention gifted. Fifth, standards of contents for invention gifted education should be made so that all institutions can use them.
