본 연구는 초등학교에서 체계적인 기후변화 대응을 위한 저탄소 교육을 실시할 수 있도록 인간 활동에 의해 발생하는 온실가스 배출이 지구에 미치는 영향을 나타내는 지표인 탄소발자국 개념에 기반을 둔 초등학교 5∼6학년용 저탄소 교육프로그램을 개발하여 효과를 검증하였다. 학습자의 발 달 단계를 고려하고 복잡한 시스템이나 인과관계를 이해하기보다는 간단하면서도 구체적인 내용으 로 구성된 프로그램은 초등학생들이 탄소발자국이 줄어드는 과정을 직접 실천하여 자신의 탄소발 자국이 줄어드는 과정을 통해 자신이 기후변화 문제에 직접 관계가 있다는 사실을 파악할 수 있도 록 하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 저탄소 교육프로그램 모형 개발은 1차원은 기후변화교육 내용 체계, 2차원은 탄소발자국 감축 길천 영역, 3차원은 발달단계에 따른 환경확대법에 따른 내용으로 구성하였다. 둘째, 개발된 교육프로그램의 주제는 ‘이산화탄소와 온실효과’, ‘기후변화와 생태계’, ‘나의 탄소발 자국은?’, ‘몸의 온도를 조절해요’, ‘푸드마일리지’, ‘집에서 새는 이산화탄소’, ‘두 바퀴와 네 바퀴’, ‘생활용품 속 탄소발자국’, ‘저탄소를 위한 국토 가꾸기’, ‘우리 집의 탄소다이어트’ 10개 주제로 구 성하였다. 셋째, 프로그램을 초등학생에게 적용한 결과, 기후변화에 대한 인식과 태도를 함양하는데 효과를 보였으며, 대부분의 학생들의 인지적, 감성을 자극하여 기후변화에 대한 관심과 흥미가 생기고 기 후변화와 자신들이 무엇을 할 수 있는지에 대한 고민과 실천의 노력에 대한 의지가 생겼음을 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로 기후변화 대응을 위한 저탄소 교육프로그램은 학생이 직접 실천하여 자신의 탄소발 자국이 줄어드는 과정을 통해 학습자 자신이 기후변화 문제에 직접 관계가 있다는 사실에 대한 인 식과 태도를 함양하는데 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 초등현장에서 기후변화교육 체계를 정립하는데본 연구에서 개발된 프로그램은 실천중심의 환경교육 프로그램으로 하나의 좋은 예시가 하나의 좋은예시가 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
The purpose of this study was to develop the low carbon program that makes the basic understanding to climate change and to climate change response learning experience for upper elementary students. The program considered the developmental stage of the learner was to help identify the fact that they are directly related to the issue of climate change through reduced their The research was processed through four major stages: (1) preparation, (2) development, (3) field test, and (4) evaluation and improvement. The results of this study were as follows. First, the development of program model was based on the three regions which are contents process of climate change, practical part on climate change response based on carbon footprint concept and expanding environments principle in accordance with students′ cognitive developmental stages. Second, this development of education program is made up of ten parts: ‘Carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect’, ‘Climate change and ecosystems’, ‘My carbon footprint is?’, ‘Control the temperature of the body’, ‘Food mileage’, ‘Carbon dioxide leak at home’, ‘Two wheels and four wheels’, ‘Carbon footprint in household supplies’, ‘Building land for low-carbon’, ‘Our home's carbon diet’. Third, the developed low carbon program had a positive effect on upper elementary student s′ attitude and awareness on the climate change. The students is concerned and interested in the life related to climate change, and they presented positive attitude and participation toward low carbon society. In conclusion, the elementary low carbon education program has a positive effect on preand post-test to the higher grade students of elementary school. So, this study of developing life practice-centered low carbon education program seemed to be a good example in the establishment on climate change education system in elementary school field.
