Objectives: To investigate characteristics of event-related potential (P300) in butane gas abuse patients. Methods: We retrospectively examined and analyzed medical records, including age, IQ, and P300 test results, of 15 patients with bu- tane gas abuse and 30 healthy controls. Measured values of P300 from 19 electrodes (Fp1, Fp2, Fz, F3, F4, C3, C4, Cz, P3, P4, Pz, F7, F8, T3, T4, T5, T6, O1, O2) were analyzed. For group comparisons, independent sample t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests were used. Results: This study compared and analyzed P300 amplitude and latency of 15 patients with butane gas abuse and 30 healthy controls. When average values of amplitude were compared, the amplitude was statistically reduced in EEG electrodes of Fp1, Fp2 in the patient group with butane gas abuse compared to the control group. Conclusion: Similar to results of previous MRI studies, P300 can demonstrate that butane gas abuse can damage the frontal lobe respon- sible for cognitive and executive functions.
