Molecules undergo changes under different disease conditions. Advanced 'omics' technologies and bioinformatics are used to reveal differentially expressed molecules. The altered level of molecule expression can be used to determine the pathogenesis of diseases and have the potential to serve as biomarkers. The identified biomarkers could be utilized for the diagnosis, monitoring, and prediction of therapeutic effects. Here, we summarize the newly identified biomarkers in various disease types such as cancers, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases, to offer new insights into diagnosis and treatment. Although further research on the relevant functions and mechanisms is necessary, understanding various biomarkers will be beneficial in veterinary medicine.
