Studying the Impact of Social Disorder on Societal Security: Focusing on Resilience in Societal Security

본 연구는 사회적 불안정이 실제로 사회적 안보에서 어떻게 작동하는 지를 분석하는 데에 목적을 둔다. 이를 통해 전통적인 안보 개념과 사회적 안보에서 사회적 불안정이 다르게 나타날 수 있음을 제시한다. 이 연구는 국가별 시계열 데이터와 고정효과 모델을 활용하여, 사회적 불안정이 사회적 안보를 증진하는 복합적인 역할을 수행함을 발견했다. 또한 본 연구는 사회적 불안정이 사회적 안보 증진으로 이어지는 메커니즘을 분석하고, 이 과정에서 사회적 인프라와 회복탄력성이 어떠한 역할을 하는지 구체적으로 조명한다. 여기에 중급학교 진학률을 도구변수로 사용한 분석을 통해, 사회적 불안정과 사회적 안보 지표 간의 관계에서 사회적 불안정이 사회적 인프라 구축으로 이어져 사회적 안보의 회복탄력성을 높이는지를 제시한다.

This study analyzes the impact of social disorder on societal security, proposing that, contrary to traditional security concepts, social disorder may positively influence societal security. Using fixed-effects models and instrumental variable analysis on country-specific time series data, we find that social disorder, while having short-term negative effects, ultimately enhances societal security by fostering social infrastructure development. Specifically, using secondary school enrollment as an instrumental variable, I identify a mechanism where social disorder leads to improved educational infrastructure, thereby increasing the resilience of societal security. The study reveals that social disorder initially correlates negatively with life expectancy and positively with infant mortality rates, but these trends reverse over time, suggesting a complex, non-linear relationship. The findings challenge conventional perspectives on security, emphasizing the importance of long-term, resilience-focused approaches in security policy formulation.
