The purpose of this study is to examine ways to preserve romantic emotions and ensure tourism sustainability in the process of newly planning, developing, and reproducing the romantic spatiality and nostalgic images of Yeosu City. Yeosu City’s tourism needs content that can provide romance, emotion, joy, and comfort by applying storytelling with various themes to the surrounding islands. Yeosu City should provide specific narratives and content planning that allow tourists to experience romantic emotions. The value of Yeosu City’s emotional tourism can be expressed in existing romantic content and various emotional storytelling content utilizing the surrounding islands. Yeosu Night Sea is a place with a romantic spatial image, and it can be said to perform a function similar to the ‘third space.’ The romantic content of Yeosu City can be linked to the formation of empathy by utilizing beautiful seascapes, special experiences with local emotions, food, and past memories of Yeosu City. Also, Yeosu City needs to recognize and prepare measures for the risk of touristification in the process of implementing tourism policies. Yeosu City needs to pay attention to preventing population outflow due to the outflow of the settled population along with revitalizing tourism through the influx of tourists. This is because the outflow of the settled population can lead to damage to the regional image, decrease in regional identity assets, and decrease in manpower for tourism revitalization. The implication of this study is that it is discussing not only the improvement of romantic content but also the prevention of damage to settled residents due to excessive tourism. On the other hand, the limitation of this study is that it focuses on the necessity rather than the specific presentation of romantic content.
