정상가족 담론의 고착과 가족 유연성 담론 확산의 동시성 : TV 다큐멘터리의 가족 재현을 중심으로

Changes in Family Discourse and Desire for Pure Love: Based on Portrayals of Contemporary Family in TV documentaries

한국의 정상가족 개념과 구성은 압축적 근대화와 신자유주의적 개인화를 거치며 급격히변동해왔다. 이에 최근 다양한 형태의 가족에 대한 기존의 인식을 제고하고 이들을 위한 복지정책의 필요성을 논하는 움직임이 커지고 있다. 사회의 주류 담론을 효과적으로 드러내는 매체인 미디어에서도 다양한 형태의 가족들이 나타나기 시작하며 대중들의 인식 변화가 함께목격되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국 가족 담론의 흐름과 가족 유연성 담론을 중심으로 한국사회에서 비정상 구조로 인식되는 경향이 있었던 가족들의 미디어 재현 양상을 파악하고자하였다. 이에 2021년 방영된 TV 다큐멘터리 다큐 잇(it)에서 가족을 대상으로 한 에피소드 두가지를 서사 분석하였고, 이를 바탕으로 현대사회의 가족을 구성하는 본질과 방향성을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 추후 한국의 가족 담론은 ‘순수한 친밀성으로의 지향’을 중심으로 구조적이고 문화적인 배경에서 신중히 고찰되어야 함을 논의하였다.

The concept of a conventional family and its composition in South Korea have changed rapidly as it has undergone compressed modernity for national economic growth. As the need for increased awareness of diverse families and welfare policies to accommodate them has grown, the media has begun to portray types of families departing from the traditional family ideology, contributing to a shift in public perception. The media serves as a key medium that captures the mainstream family discourse in contemporary society. Therefore, this study examined the media representation of families previously considered abnormal, focusing on changes in the Korean family discourse. To do so, we utilized a narrative analysis to observe and analyze contemporary families in TV documentaries, with a specific focus on the discourse on family flexibility. As a result, we found a shift towards viewing pure love as an essential aspect of contemporary families. Thus, we should focus on the idea that the essence of family lies in the desire for having their own close and trustworthy relationships. Based on this, we suggest that the ways to embrace Korean families should be considered in terms of both structural and cultural backgrounds.
