선어말 어미 {-시-}의 사용 영역 확대에 관한 문법교육 방향 탐색

Exploring Directions for Grammar Education Regarding the Expanded Use of the Pre-final Ending {-si-}

목적: 이 연구의 목적은 의미·화용적으로 기능을 확장해 가고 있는 선어말 어미 {-시-}의 문법교육 자원으로서의 가치를 탐색하고, 주체 존대 기능을 담당하던 선어말 어미 {-시-}가 청자 존대까지 그 기능을 확장하는 양상에 대한 문법교육 방향을 제안하는 것이다. 방법: 문법교육의 목표 및 현재 선어말 어미 {-시-}가 보여 주고 있는 언어적 특성을 두루 고려하여 {-시-}의 교육 자원으로서의 가치를 추출하였다. 그리고 5종의 ≪언어와 매체≫ 교과서를 분석하여 {-시-}의 사용 범위 확대에 관한 교육 현황을 검토하는 한편, 그 안에서 발견된 한계점을 보완하는 방향으로 선어말 어미 {-시-}에 대한 교육 방안을 제안하였다. 결과: 교과서 분석을 통해 현재 문법교육에서는 {-시-}의 확대 사용 양상을 ‘비규범적’인 현상으로 다루고 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 언어 사용상의 적절성이나 타당성 등에 대한 총체적 성찰 경험을 제공하기보다는 문법 체계상의 불합치를 근거로 {-시-}의 사용을 지양해야 함을 주지하는 방향으로 교육 내용을 구성한 점을 현 교육 내용의 한계로 파악하였다. 결론: {-시-}의 기능 확장 양상을 언어 구조적, 담화·화용적, 사회 실천적 차원에서 탐색해 볼 수 있도록 하는 교육 방안을 제안하였다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the value of the pre-final ending {-si-}, which is expanding its function semantically and pragmatically, as a resource for grammar education. Additionally, it aims to propose directions for grammar education regarding the expansion of the function of the pre-final ending {-si-} from subject honorification to listener honorifi- cation. Methods: By considering the goals of grammar education and the linguistic characteristics currently exhibited by the pre-final ending {-si-}, the value of {-si-} as an educational resource was extracted. The educational status regarding the expanded use of {-si-} was examined using five types of “Language and Media” textbooks. Based on the limitations identified, educational methods for the pre-final ending {-si-} were proposed to address these issues. Results: Textbook analysis revealed that the current grammar education treats the expanded use of {-si-} as 'non-normative'. The limitations identified include the judgment of {-si-} use as non-normative based solely on its incongruence with the grammatical system, without considering the appropriateness or validity in language use, and the lack of opportunities for learners to engage in autonomous thinking. Conclusion: This paper proposes educational directions that allow learners to explore the functional expansion of {-si-} from linguistic, discourse-pragmatic, and social-practice perspectives.
