니체에게서 ‘주권적 개인’의 자기창조와 미시정치

Nietzsche’s Sovereign Individual’s Self- Creation and Mirco-Politics

니체는 ‘주권적 개인’의 자율성의 표현인 자기입법을 ‘자기창조’와 같은 것으 로 여겼다. 우리는 이 글에서 그러한 자기창조의 함의와 역할에 대해 생각해보 고자 하는데, 그 전에 먼저 한 가지 점을 분명히 해두고 싶다. 그것은 니체에게 서 자기창조가 논해지는 두 가지 차원을 구별할 수 있다는 것이다. 하나는 자기 창조의 일반론에 해당하는 것, 특히 주권적 개인과 철학자의 자기창조의 지위와 역할에 대한 것이고, 다른 하나는 다름 아닌 하나의 주권적 개인이자 철학자로 서 니체 자신이 제안하는 자기창조에 대한 것이다. 자기창조에 관한 니체의 논 의는 이렇게 두 차원을 구별해야만 제대로 이해될 수 있다. 니체는 공동체라는 나무와 그것의 열매이자 씨앗으로서의 개인이라는 비유 를 통해 일종의 역동적 사회 이론을 수립할 것을 시도했다. 주권적 개인에 대한 사유는 그러한 차원에 속하는 것으로서, 니체는 일반적으로 주권적 개인과 철학 자의 자기창조가 수행하는 사회적·정치적 역할과 영향에 주목했다. 다른 한편 니체는 그 자신이 새로운 가치를 주창하는 철학자로서 삶을 긍정하는 새로운 이 상과 가치를 제시하고자 했으며, 이러한 맥락에서 초인의 이상을 따르는 이들에 게 자기창조를 주문하기도 한다. 즉 자기창조는 한편으로 ‘모든’ 주권적 개인들 의 실천으로 이해될 수 있으며, 다른 한편으로 초인과 양육의 도덕을 설파하는 미래의 철학자로서의 니체에 의해 그를 따르는 이들에게 요청되는 것이기도 하다. 이 글에서 우리는 자기창조의 일반론에 해당하는 것, 즉 주권적 개인의 자기 창조와 그것의 함의 및 역할에 대해 생각해보고자 한다.

In this article, we suggest distinguishing two different levels of Nietzsche’s thought on self-creation. On the one hand Nietzsche wanted to establish a kind of general theory about dynamics of a community, its birth, growth, corruption and demise. The idea of ‘sovereign individual’ enters in this context, its role being the key player in the changes of a community, as the metaphors of ‘fruits’ and ‘seeds’ show it very well. That is, Nietzsche as a social theorist took much interest in the roles and influences the private self-creations of sovereign individuals and philosophers might have, socially and politically. On the other hand, as himself a philosopher and a sovereign individual, Nietzsche for his part suggested several life-affirming ideals and values, including that of self-creation, to those who are attracted to his teaching of Overman. Making sure there being two different levels of talk on self-creation in Nietzsche’s works, we focus on the former level, that is, the social and political implications sovereign individuals’ private self-creations might have. We start with ‘the care of self ’ as the road to free spirits and examine its micro-political roles. We also point to the economy of ‘overflowing’ and the working of ‘eros,’ answering the question of how private self-creations can have public effects.
