아렌트가 바라본 니체의 가치 전도와 니힐리즘

Nietzsche’s Value Reversal and Nihilism as Seen by Arendt

아렌트와 니체의 철학은 서로 다른 철학적 맥락에서 발전했지만, 두 사상가는 니힐리즘과 가치 전도에 대한 중요한 관점을 제시했다. 아렌트는 니힐리즘을 주 로 정치적 맥락에서 분석했다. 그녀는 니힐리즘이 전체주의적 사고의 토양이 될 수 있음을 지적하며, 20세기 정치적 악의 부상과 관련지어서 설명했다. 그래서 아렌트는 니체와 다르게 전통적 가치의 붕괴가 종국에는 새로운 창조적 가능성 을 열어준다고 보지 않았다. 오히려 이러한 가치의 붕괴가 대중들을 혼란스럽게 하고, 극단적인 이념으로 몰아갈 수 있다고 경고했다. 아렌트는 니체가 주장한 가치 전도의 개념을 비판적으로 수용하고 니체와는 다소 다르게 나아갔다. 아렌 트에게 니체의 가치 전도는 기존의 도덕적 토대를 붕괴시키지만, 그 결과 새로운 가치체계의 확립보다 도덕적 진공 상태를 초래할 위험이 있다고 보았다. 그녀는 이러한 상태가 전체주의적 권력의 정당화에 이용될 수 있다고 경고했다. 따라서 필자는 아렌트가 바라본 근대사회에서 니체의 가치 전도와 니힐리즘의 관점을 통해 니힐리즘의 극복책을 고찰하고자 한다.

Although Arendt and Nietzsche’s philosophies developed in different philosophical contexts, the two thinkers presented important perspectives on nihilism and value reversal. Arendt analyzed nihilism mainly in a political context. She pointed out that nihilism can become the soil of totalitarian thinking, and explained it in relation to the rise of political evil in the 20th century. Therefore, unlike Nietzsche, Arendt did not see the collapse of traditional values as ultimately opening up new creative possibilities. Rather, she warned that such a collapse of values could confuse the masses and drive them to extreme ideologies. Arendt critically accepted the concept of value reversal advocated by Nietzsche, and proceeded somewhat differently from Nietzsche. For Arendt, Nietzsche’s value reversal collapsed the existing moral foundation, but as a result, there was a risk of creating a moral vacuum rather than establishing a new value system. She warned that this state could be used to justify totalitarian power. Therefore, the author intends to examine the solution to overcome nihilism through Nietzsche’s view of value reversal and nihilism in modern society as viewed by Arendt.
