This study investigates the effect of social distancing due to COVID-19 on consumer prices of Hanwoo and Handon. A cumulative multiple cutoff regression discontinuity model is used to examine the causal effect. The results show that the price of beef sirloin, which consumes a lot of eating out, decreases when social distancing is strengthened, and the price increases when social distancing is relaxed. On the other hand, the price of button round increases as in-house demand increased when social distancing was strengthened. And the consumer price of Handon was less affected by the reinforcement of social distancing than that of Korean beef, but was significantly affected by the lifting of the social distancing. In particular, the price of pork belly and butt, which are parts for BBQ, seems to change significantly at the time of demand increasing rather than demand decreasing.
