DOI : 10.59825/jcs.2024.2.9.103

The Studies on Kaifeng in the Song Dynasty is a monograph on Kaifeng, the capital of the Song Dynasty, written by Japanese scholar of Song history, Kazuo Kubota. The book uses concepts such as “capital function”, “sacred and secular capital facilities” for the research theories. It takes the Forbidden Army barracks in the Northern Song Dynasty, the urban space and law of Kaifeng in the Northern Song Dynasty, and the reform and politics of the Northern Song Dynasty as its research objects. The entire city of Kaifeng has been studied in detail, presenting a Kaifeng city from a different perspective than previous studies. Based on the study of the book Studies on Kaifeng in the Song Dynasty, this article reviews it, focuses on highlighting its academic value, and defines its academic status.
