The study was designed to develop an instruction model of Backward Design based on edu-tech with a purpose of improving elementary school English learners' self-directed learning competence. To achieve the study purpose, two elementary school English teachers engaged in the study by sharing their experiences on English teaching and edu-tech use in their lessons. The study also included 76 elementary school English learners to investigate how the edu-tech based Backward Design influenced on their self-directed learning competence. They were asked to respond to the pre-test and to the post-test, which had 27 items in a six-Likert scale. The results of the study as follows; even though the elementary school English learners impro- ved their self-direct learning competence, their improvement was not statistically significant. However, the teacher who taught the participants reported that the instruction model of the edu-tech based Backward Design helped her students to manage their English learning and to engage themselves to class activities. The study also discussed its limitation and suggestions for a future study.
