자율주행 차량 사고 원인 분석을 통한 안전성 제고 방안

A Study on Accident Causes of Self-Driving Vehicles to Improve Stability

본격적인 자율주행 기술의 활용에 따라 운전자의 편의성이 극대화되고 있지만, 자율주행 차량의 안전에 대한 우려가 여전히 상존하는 현시점에서 안전성을 향상시키려는 노력은 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 캘리포니아 차량관리국(California DMV)에서 제공하는 자율주행 차량 사고데이터 중 자율주행으로 운행하던 중 사고가 난 기록만을 선별하여 약 400여 건에 대한 사고 원인을 분석하였다. 주요 사고 원인으로는, 주차된 차량에 대한 낮은 인식률, 편의용품 부착으로 인한 차량의 크기 변화 파악 불가능, 미흡한 방어 운전 시스템, 특수한 도로 상황에서의 낮은 인지 속도 등으로 파악되었다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 차량 인식률 제고의 필요성, 안전 지역 범위 재구축, 방어 운전을 위한 차량의 추가 기능 제안, 자율주행 차량과 스마트 도로 간 소통의 중요성 강조 등의 방안을 제시하였다. 결과적으로 본 연구에서는 캘리포니아 DMV에서 제공하는 자율주행차 사고 데이터를 분석하여 자율주행차의 안전성을 제고할 수 있는 방안을 제언하였다. 이를 통해 자율주행 차량의 안전성 제고와 함께 자율주행에 대한 사회적 긍정 인식과 신뢰도 상승에 기여할 것으로 본다.

Although the convenience of drivers is maximizing due to the full-fledged self-driving service, complex problems are still emerging in various areas, including legal, ethical, and social aspects. As a result, social awareness and acceptability of self-driving cars have not been sufficiently formed, and efforts to improve stability are essential at this point. Therefore, in this study, only records of accidents while driving autonomously were selected among the accident data of autonomous vehicles provided by California DMV and the causes of accidents were analyzed for about 400 cases. As a result, main causes were verified as low recognition rate of parked vehicles, inability to grasp changes in vehicle size due to attachment of convenience goods, insufficient defense driving system, low recognition speed in special road conditions, etc. To mitigate these problems, it is expected to increase vehicle recognition rate, reconstruct safety area range, devise additional vehicle functionalities for defensive driving, and emphasize the importance of communication between self-driving cars and smart roads. These measures aim to enhance the safety of autonomous vehicles and contribute to increasing positive social perception and trust in autonomous driving.
