Rosa Luxemburg’s Contribution to Women’s Political Participation

Rosa Luxemburg’s life was devoted to the proletarian revolutionary movement, and Lenin called her “the eagle of the revolution”. For a long time, the academic research on Luxemburg thought has focused on proletarian revolutionary thought, proletarian party thought, socialist social thought and so on. In fact, Luxemburg, in speeches and articles, has repeatedly put forward her own views on women’s liberation, especially on the question of women’s suffrage. Luxemburg not only criticized the attitude of women’s suffrage in Germany and Belgium at that time, but also actively engaged in the practice of women’s liberation, serving as the editor of the International Women’s Secretariat’s organ—L’Egalite. Luxemburg criticized bourgeois women, pointed out the inevitability of proletarian women’s participation in politics, viewed women’s issues from the standpoint of proletarian emancipation, believed that proletarian women’s emancipation was a part of proletarian emancipation, encouraged proletarian women to participate in politics, and contributed indelible credit to promoting the movement of proletarian women to fight for political rights.
