As a unique Chinese film genre, wuxia films are deeply influenced by Confucian renxue ideology, and chivalry, as the foundation of wuxia films, is also the embodiment of the unique moral concepts and code of conduct in Chinese culture. The purpose of this paper is to return to the core of benevolence thought in the original canon of Confucius and Mencius for meaningful interpretation, and to explore how martial arts films embody Confucian benevolence thought, and to further analyze the evolution of its benevolence thought in martial arts films of different periods, as well as the revelation of chivalry’s benevolence and righteousness thought to the modern society.
