무역연구 제20권 제5호.jpg

Purpose - This study aims to explore and examine factors that may influence employee intervention behaviors when witnessing workplace ostracism. Despite increasing social concerns, domestic research on workplace exclusion remains limited, making effective management challenging. This study seeks to identify key variables that lead to intervention as a strategy to manage workplace ostracism. Design/Methodology/Approach - A survey was conducted among 400 employees working in Korean companies. Hypotheses were formulated to investigate the relevant variables, and regression analysis was used to test them. Findings - The results of this study showed that moral identity, a variable related to bystanders in workplace ostracism, had a significant relationship with intervention behavior. Among the Big Five personality traits of bystanders, only conscientiousness, agreeableness, and neuroticism were found to be significantly related to intervention behavior. Additionally, in situations of workplace ostracism, the victim's approach response and the closeness between the observer and the victim were also significant factors influencing intervention behavior. Research Implications - Despite growing concerns about workplace ostracism, domestic research is limited. This study identifies key variables related to intervention, providing new insights to manage workplace exclusion and offering guidance for future research in this area.
