This study aims to investigate how free voluntary reading with a mentor affects Korean language acquisition. For this, the researcher selected a Chinese student of Korean as a Foreign Language, Ruizhen, as a research participant and conducted a pre-test, free voluntary readings with a mentor, post-tests, and a miscue analysis of Goodman, Watson, and Burke (2005). The results showed that Ruizhen’s recoding, use of language systems, and reading strategies have improved. Also, her reading comprehension skills have reached a proficient level. Furthermore, her speech quantity increased by an average of four times compared to the pre-test. Therefore, this study suggests that KFL students use free voluntary reading with a mentor to develop their language skills.
