This study aims to propose and examine a Korean language project-based class utilizing newspaper production for foreign military cadets at the Korea Naval Academy. To achieve this, necessary educational content was identified, and a project-based curriculum was designed and implemented in a Korean language course for second-year cadets during the second semester of 2023. The class design involved structuring the course into phases, including understanding article types, article writing, peer review, and final newspaper compilation. The results indicated that using real-life military-related topics as educational materials effectively increased cadets’ interest and the utility of Korean language learning. However, it was noted that future classes should consider the academic schedule to provide flexible assignments and minimize learners’ burden. Consequently, the project class model was revised to allow more flexible use of individual projects within class time. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to special-purpose Korean language education by providing foundational data and practical examples for foreign military cadets, offering valuable insights for future research.
