Russia's relations with BRICS after the Ukrainian war: an external economic security analysis

현대사회에서의 안보는 군사적 요인뿐만 아니라, 경제적 요인이 점점 더 중요해지고 있다. 특히 2022년 우크라이나 전쟁 발발로 인한 에너지 및 곡물 시장의 변동성은 경제안보의 중요성을 깨닫는 계기가 되었으며, 각국은 자국의 경제안보 보장을 위해 실리주의 경제외교를 펼치고 있다. 특히 전쟁이 장기간 지속되면서 대러시아 경제제재가 전면적으로 확대됨에 따라 러시아는 전례없는 제재대상국이 되었고, 이에 대한 대응책의 일환으로 BRICS와의 협력 확대를 주요 대외경제전략의 하나로 추진하고 있다. 이러한 상황을 고려하여 본고에서는 현재 러시아가 직면한 대외적 경제안보 위협요인을 파악하고 경제안보 측면에서 이를 완화하기 위한 방안으로 무역, 금융, 기술, 디지털 경제 분야에서 BRICS 내에서의 협력을 분석한다.

Security in the modern world is increasingly about economic factors, not just military ones. In particular, the volatility of the energy and grain markets due to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022 has led to the realization of the importance of economic security, and each country is engaging in pragmatic economic diplomacy to ensure its own economic security. In particular, the prolonged war has led to an unprecedented expansion of economic sanctions against Russia. As a result, Russia has been subjected to unprecedented sanctions, and as a countermeasure, it has been promoting expanded cooperation with BRICS as one of its main foreign economic strategies. In light of this situation, the article identifies the external economic and security threats currently facing Russia and analyzes cooperation within the BRICS in the areas of trade, finance, technology, and the digital economy as a way to mitigate them from an economic and security perspective.
