A Study on Auditory Imagery in Yun Gon-gang's Poetry

본 연구는 윤곤강 시에 드러나는 청각적 이미지를 자료화하고 의미를 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 윤곤강의 시에서 청각적 요소가 포함된 시는 전체의 66%에 달할 뿐만 아니라 중요한 의미를 전달하는 매개로 쓰인다. 이는 윤곤강이 의미를 전달함에 있어 청각적 이미지를 주요하게 사용한다는 의미가 된다. 청각적 이미지의 발현은 첫째 주체가 현실을 인식하게 하고 무디어진 의식을 각성케 하는 역할을 한다. 식민지 근대라는 암울한 현실에 놓인 주체는 굴욕에 무감각해지거나 무기력한 절망감에 빠져 있는 양상을 보인다. ‘잉경 소리’, ‘종소리’ 등을 포함한 다양한 소리는 이러한 주체를 깨어나게 하고 경각심을 갖게 하는 장치로 기능한다. 둘째, 근대적 시간관을 비판하고 반근대적 시간관을 구현한다. ‘시계’로 표상되는 근대적 시간은 인간을 구속, 규율하여 궁극적으로는 기계화되고 파편화된 존재로 자리하게 만든다. 청각적 이미지는 이러한 근대적 시간관을 내면화하여 그것에 지배받는 근대인의 비루한 일상을 드러내고 순환적 영원성을 함의한 자연의 시간관을 구현하는 장치로 기능한다. 셋째 시각이 중심이 되는 근대성에 대한 응전으로 작용한다. 윤곤강은 그의 시에서 미미한 소리를 통해 청각적 이미지를 부각하고 청각의 활성화에 대한 적극적 의지를 드러내고 있다. 이는 주체로서의 특권적 지위로 대상과의 관계를 압도해 나가는 시각 중심의 근대에 대한 응전이자 평등과 유대의 공동체성이나 서정적 동일성을 구현하려는 의지의 발현으로 볼 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze auditory images in Yoon Gon-gang’s poetry. Auditory images are significant and convey important meanings in Yoon Gon-gang’s poetry. This means that Yoon Gon-gang primarily uses auditory images to convey meanings. The meaning of auditory images in Yoon Gon-gang’s poetry is as follows. First, it makes the subject recognize reality and awakens the dulled consciousness. The subject is in a dark reality of colonial modernity and shows an aspect of helpless despair. Various sounds such as ‘bell sounds’ awaken this subject. Second, it criticizes the modern concept of time and implements an anti-modern concept of time. Modern time, represented by a ‘clock,’ restrains and disciplines humans, ultimately making them mechanized and fragmented beings. Auditory images internalize this modern concept of time and reveal the miserable daily lives of modern people who are governed by it. They also function as a device that implements the natural concept of time that implies cyclical eternity. Third, it acts as a response to modernity that is centered on vision. In his poetry, Yoon Gon-gang highlights auditory images through subtle sounds and reveals his active will to activate hearing. This can be seen as a response to the visual-centered modernity that overwhelms the relationship with the object with the privileged position of the subject, and as an expression of the will to realize the community of equality and solidarity or lyrical identity.
